Over the last decade, we’ve made meaningful strides: advancing best practices, transitioning from hard hats to helmets, shedding light on vital issues that affect health and safety, like mental health, fostering a culture of care and accountability, and creating partnerships and initiatives for improving jobsite safety. But safety is a commitment that is never complete. The work changes. The risks evolve. Our understanding grows. And we must continue to evolve with them—always looking for better ways to protect, support and provide for the people who make our industry possible.
As an industry, the most important thing we build every day is trust—with our teams, our partners, and the families who count on their loved ones coming home safely each day. Health and safety are how we show we care.
Our bold five-year vision calls on the full strength of our industry to deepen the culture of care for the whole person through all aspects of a project. That greater human focus requires all of us to share the responsibility and respect, across every phase: design, planning, construction, and beyond.

Building Safety into Everything We Do
The construction industry has made significant strides in safety over the decades, yet it continues to be among the industries most impacted by Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIFs). Although recordable incident rates have seen a steady downward trend in the US Construction industry, fatality rates have remained persistently high for over ten years. Change won’t come until we elevate safety in every phase of the project life cycle—from early design decisions to final closeout.
Our five-year vision to reshape how our industry approaches safety is anchored in a unified call to action on high energy, high hazard work to prevent serious injuries and fatalities. This vision calls for deeper engagement and a mindset of continuous improvement, mutual accountability, and collaboration across the entire project life cycle. To build trust across every role and every relationship, we must bring together owners, architects, engineers, contractors, skilled craft professionals, trade partners, suppliers, vendors, and industry associations, to work side-by-side and drive this movement forward.
