Construction Safety Week, scheduled to take place May 6-10th, is celebrating a decade of a mission to build a safer industry. Construction Safety Week shares 2024 initiatives including the My Voice, My Vote Giveaway and a partnership with OSHA calling for a nationwide safety down.

Construction Safety Week and OSHA announce their joint effort to create the largest industry-wide safety stand-down ever held the week of May 6-10th.

Dan Johnson, Construction Safety Week Chair, reflects on the shift in safety in the Construction Industry over the past decade. He dives into ways to strengthen the construction industry by committing to and investing in vital safety initiatives.

In May, the Gillam Group and the League of Champions honored Construction Safety Week’s theme, Strong Voices, Safe Choices. Employees were encouraged to engage in a variety of activities focused on learning and facilitating deeper conversations on safety. Craig Lesurf, president at Gillam Group, chair of the League of Champions and the Ontario General Contractors Association’s safety committee, emphasizes the significance of building a culture of safety and committing to that culture every day of the year.

As part of Construction Safety Week 2023, Skanska welcomed local high school students from the ACE Mentor Program on a tour of The Heming, a construction project in Tysons, VA. Led by Skanska’s Senior Project Manager, Brittany Otis, the tour highlighted the company’s commitment to safety while inspiring students to pursue a career in the industry.

Celebrating Construction Safety Week at the SABIC facility, BMWC Constructors and SABIC leadership treated employees to lunch and discussed a variety of topics on safety in the workplace. The celebration concluded with employees raising $5000 for the Tri-State Food Bank.

With the start of Construction Safety Week on the horizon, Safety Week representatives discuss the changes in the campaign since its inception, tips for new companies participating and the importance of giving all employees a voice. Companies are encouraged to participate in Safety Week May 1-5th and throughout the year.

Industry experts, including Construction Safety Week members, participated in a digital roundtable to discuss the state of safety today. Experts discussed the key components of job site safety now and in the future.

Along with other leaders in the industry, Mike Burke, Construction Safety Week Chair, speaks with ENR about raising voices at every level to create and promote safer job sites. This year’s Safety Week theme encouraged companies to commit to safety and share their individual pledges. The response illustrates what safety means to everyone in the industry.
